Body Jewelry: Short-Lived Fad or Ever-Lasting Trend?
In the past random body piercing used to
take place, where a great deal of jewelry decorated the bodies
of some to the point that airport metal detectors were sent
into a frenzy.
Today's fashion trends don’t seem to embrace
this particular sense of style as strongly as in the past.
However, it is completely false to state that this type of
jewelry has totally lost its appeal or place within the fashion
world.
Body jewelry (including ear
piercing) is very much a thriving piece of present day fashion.
You may feel it has been kicked to the wayside only because it
is practiced in a somewhat "toned down" approach.
Without a doubt, decorating your entire body
with body jewelry is no longer a desired (or even fashionable)
look. Yet, we can't forget the many changes in society that has
made various body jewelry options more acceptable in the
general sense, including pierced noses, belly buttons, and
eyebrows.
Nowadays, people deliver less frowns when
greeted with a pierced lip. Today, excessive piercing is now
looked down upon, making this trend one that may never emerge
again. The overall practice has definitely come a long way, as
fashion circles of today are much more willing to accept many
different forms of expression that involve piercing the
body.
In reality, as jewelry takes a shift in
becoming more subdued and tasteful, it is possible that an even
higher increase in acceptance regarding piercings in locations
other than the ears will take place. However, there are just
some piercings that will probably never really become an
acceptable form of fashion (and some with good reason).
Anyways – there could come a time where
jewelry designed for the nose, tongue, eyebrows, chin, and
belly button could become just as popular and typical as
putting in an earring. The more understated these kinds of body
jewelry become -- the more acceptable people turn out to be. To
some, the act will still be viewed as 'weird,' and in some
cases -- repulsive. No matter how much you try, some people
will not be able to grasp the idea of certain piercing
locations, the number of piercings, or the trend to wear large
and glitzy body jewelry. But as seasons change -- so do fashion
trends and these body jewelry ideas will probably find their
own comfortable niche as well.
